cross your fingers

i think i finally conquered the dig. library software problem. i am hesitant to even blog this, for fear that the fix on the issue was just a figment of my imaginatio. anyway..... this final project has become a total debacle, i am really ready for the semester to be done.

what else, the weather is even better than yesterday. it's near 70!!! i think they should cancel class due to good weather. yeah, i am going to campaign for that in fact.

it's back to work for me on monday. it's cool, i could use the money. did i mention that i may be going back to the job i am not so keen on this summer. it's mainly due to the fact that i have nothing else really to do. i felt totally guilted into it. we'll see if they can accomidate my request for work on the same day that i have another thing in pgh. plus, i guess it would give me the opportunity to keep getting cds and books from the carnegie once a week....

gooday sunshine

there is something about spring actually arriving and staying that makes me feel good. there are real flowers sprouting in the new park between carnegie and hillman libraries.

i went into the stephen foster memorial today. mark from dv8 has been working on the set for the pitt production of
Dancing at Lughnasa for a while. oh my goodness, it was beautiful. i was so glad that i went into the large scary foster memorial to check it out. totally amazing.

i got called of work again tomorrow- no work to be done. that means i have most of the day free, woo hoo. i will probably have to trek to school early to get some work done, boo!!!
laters

too cute

while reading bust at the library today, i saw info about this new, cheap sewing machine. i couldn't blog the photo since it's one of those zoom in zoom out extravaganzas, but check it out. is it cute or what???? i think it may serve well for the adornment i was planning on getting on my upper leg. what do you think?

incidently, foo fighters are supposed to be west wing, wtf? i don't even understand in what context.

celebrity doesn't always = good tip

michele posted a funny thing about waiting on a "celeb".

more pgh roars.

later in the day, i saw more of the inflatables... including the squirrel esque one...

last but not least, they are filming a pilot for tv in the burgh. they were filming at the mellon inst. today, i had to photo for m, to show her the hollywood and the burgh are competing for shows now...

here's the long due recap of the weekend.
friday- went to the dr. got about 100000 medicines for all my illnesses, on the mend now.

saturday- i ventured out. studied until 4 or so. natasha was not feeling well so our plans were cancelled. for some reason on saturday i felt terribly lonely, so while i can't blame her for feeling sick, i was dissapointed. i ran to target, to see what i could find for the t-shirt modification (more later....) and while i was there h called to tell me that she had been in an accident the night before, she's ok, her car is being looked at so she doesn't know yet what will happen with that. i decided to drive out to hang out with her for a while. we chatted and ate some dinner and then her friend t stopped by. it's weird, t is always with the group when we are out, but i never get to talk to him. it's like a big joke at this point. he showed me some of his collage books, so that was totally cool. i went home by 9 that night, i was still worried about making people sick and all that....

sunday- did nothing.

monday- took my swank new jeans to be hemmed, they won't be back until friday (AFTER 5, why after 5, doesn't that imply that they won't work on them until like 12 PM on friday???) and went to pick up natasha at her car dealer. we decided to head out to ligonier since it was soooooooo nice out. sunroof open, awesome. we went to kathy's to check out sale yarn, i got some good lamb's pride in this weird burgandy/ brown color and a pink one too. we went to the tavern afterwards to get lunch and while we were there a guy passed out and it was CRAZY for a few minutes. natasha blogged this, so i am not going to go through the whole event, but natasha i guess is so used to people passing out from the shop that she was totally helpful to the lady who's dad it was- she was a bit in shock and not really sure what to do, if he should get cpr, etc.

tuesday- this will be a long day. last week one of my classes was cancelled since the prof. had a conference to go to, instead of incorporatiing the material into another week, prof decided that we could all stay from 3-7 today for a extra long session!!!! can't wait. i guess it's better than the other idea which was to come in on another day, when we didn't have class to have the session (um, people have jobs and stuff.....)

ok, over and out.

(not so much) pretty in pink

is there any feeling worse than being forced to stay home? i can't take it. i am not "allowed" out since i probably now have, as a result of the cold (drumroll please....), pink eye!!! yeah!! don't worry, i am actually going to the dr. this afternoon, but i guess i can't be around peeps for 24 hours or something. terrible, torture.... i dug having pink eye in high school b/c you were forced to stay home from school, i guess i didn't care about going anywhere else back then, lame i know. but now, this feels like hell. plus i had to trash my favourite mascara!!

what else. they took the scarf off of dippy the dinosaur, i assume b/c it is spring. i felt bad, b/c it is still snowing at times, seemed a bit preemptive to take the scarf away.

i think i am going to go back to bed now.

3.23.2006

strange dream 360 degrees

so i had the most bizarre dream last night involving:

in the dream, i was in this house, where i would be talking to josh homme and then i would write notes to anderson cooper (on a old envelope) and give them to him during his breaks on cnn. they weren't creepy notes or anything, just what happened during the day, anything i had to tell anderson. it was like we were close friends b/c when he would be talking to guests, really he was writing responses to me. josh homme (also known as one of the few redheads i find super super appealing....) was just there and we would talk about random stuff, also we were apparently acquainted somehow. incidently, he had on a head scarf (i know where this part of the dream came from- i skipped past sex and the city on tv last night and samantha was wearing a bedazzled head scarf from when she was in chemo, and now josh was wearing it in my dream, who knew...) oh, and all of this was taking place in a house, so there was a room where anderson cooper filmed anderson cooper 360, or whatever and then next door i would talk to other randoms in the dream. i normally can pinpoint pretty well where strange things come from and how they get in my dreams, not so much with this one.

what else. i got called off of my one job until next thursday (no work on monday, suckas....) since we are ahead on work. i am ok with that. my other job wants me to return this summer, i don't know what to do about that at all, urgh.

in my intern session today, i was the only person who is not graduating this summer, yep, i am a total loser and f-up, thanks!!

anyway, i am up way past my bedtime, but since i don't work tomorow, i am cool with that. plus i can't really sleep. sweet dreams.

note: the person who did the photo of josh homme has the most amazing show photos, plus he uses creative commons so he is rad in my book. check them out, here is the link.

Originally uploaded by amyr.

felt TERRIBLE yesterday (going to the dr. yet, no....) fever, chills, etc. etc. came home and laid in bed. thank goodness i did, otherwise i might have missed the premier of the new rick sebak show, what makes pittsburgh pittsburgh . another fine show by rick.

i have a meeting for a group project today, i don't know if i am going to go to my one class today, it's a total waste and i might get really mad if i do go, feel sick, and feel ripped off. i'll see how i feel i guess.

ok, i need to blog about something else cause i sound like a big complainer. um.... oh, of course. it's only a few weeks until i get to see the stills, i am so freaking psyched for this show. not only have i not been to a real show in about forever, but i have never seen the stills aside from about 2 minutes at coachella a few years back. i adore the stills. i am so excited to hear the new album and the new songs. i haven't been to the club in baltimore where the show is before, it's kind of around where m used to live... anyway. i'm out.

3.18.2006

return of the nerd

first things first. i saw this site on a blog today: http://www.whichbook.net/index.jsp probably old news to some, but it's pretty intriquing to me. b/c i am a dork.

here are some random observations:
1. people who never go out, go out on st. pat's. it's a shame that they ruin the holiday. i don't think i will ever go out on st. pat's again. too many people who can't hold their liquor, walking around like arses wearing green sunglasses. not for me.

2. i am the anti social social drinker, i like to go out and have my one drink in the quiet of a deserted bar or place. yes, that is what i like. here's the comparison, last week we go to red star, there are probably less than 20 people, i love it, i love hanging out in a group of 4 counting me, it's all good. this week, it's mayhehm due to st. pat's with left over mardi gras beads abound (mostly green). so mainly, i want to have my own private social club, for me.

3. i am still indimidated by jocky people. i don't think that will ever go away.

4. talking on the phone to CA in the middle of the night is fun!!

5. i don't think i want to go to work on saturdays.... already i am not in the mood to go.

6. this is a question, does that creepy green beer turn people's teeth green? it seems so overdyed that it would have to....

other bits and bobs:
ran into natasha out at dinner with the fam, her and d were with his fam. totally weird. i didn't know what time my fam could go so i didn't want to tell them to come with and then have to wait. i didn't even notice them in the rest. while i sat and waited for my fam.

stitch and bitch was packed to the gills again. plus there was so music at DV8 so we just stayed on the non-gallery side all night. good times, i hadn't seen fran in a while, things are going great for her.

nothing else really happened, left around 11:30 to go home. oh, a friend was telling me a totally dramatic story last night and right in the middle, cell phone dead (which is a contstant with this person). i am beginning to think that it's all for show, to make the story even more dramatic. m suggested it's like a radio serial, without the da da dum.....

i have a ton of reading to do this weekend, even though we don't have class this week, we have to submit our readings back by tomorrow, good, by the time we discuss the readings, i'll have no idea what they were about.

i was going to go to the show tonight, but i wussed out, should i just stop now b/c i am sounding sickeningly lame.

good deals:
short day tomorrow since i traded shifts, so i'll work on saturday.
chatted with my boss (one of the many) about library school and library jobs, it was a good deal. also discussed: studded belts and other punk rock extravaganzas.
stitch and bitch on friday, woo hoo.
ok, over and out.

update/ semi spoiler

it's actually not tea, just some herbal stuff so i am ok with that, lemon, honey, etc.

can you believe uncle junior? sopranos is going to be insane this season.....

desperation

i am currently brewing a cup of tea, for anyone who knows me, you are quite aware that tea is not my game at all- i am just that sick that i am willing to TRY tea for my throat. whoever got me sick is in big trouble.

3.10.2006

shhhhh.....

i am blogging from the coffee shop, don't tell anyone.....

don't go, spring break!

how is it friday already? i am pissed that spring break is coming to an end and am now feeling a weird panic about work i still haven't finished. urgh. i swear i did work nearly every day this week, but still, i am not done prepping for the test or any of the other crap i had to do over break. (strategic plan still not written, when did i get soooooooooooooo lazy).

the weather was pretty good yesterday. a bit windy, so it was difficult to work outside, but with some rocks and my cell it was all good. good times. went to b and n with h and b afterwards, working on the burgandy hat but in brown now.

that's about all. n said we may do some baking this weekend which would be fun.

i feel like i have an cold coming on as i am coughing, and the palm of my hand got cut yesterday, totally the worst feeling as you are constantly screaming in pain from common things like soap, salt, etc etc. i feel like i need to have a giant bandage on. it's really not that bad, just in a terrible spot.

nuns vs. librarians spelling bee cage match of dooooooomBy jessamyn on spelling bee
When nuns are using the Internet to practice for the spelling bee, do the librarians stand a chance, especially when the nuns know a lot of Latin? The librarians have won the last two years in a row, but the nuns haven’t been in the running since 2001. The ninth annual bee happens tomorrow and is a benefit for a Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission helping adults with literacy skills.

wha?

MonsterPodBy Jenna on accessories
What's that blob on your digital camera? That funny looking suction cup thingy is actually a very portable tripod called the MonsterPod that will screw into your digital camera and stick to just about any surface - from wood to metal to plaster. So how does it work? It has a viscoelastic morphing polymer super grip base (got all that?) that is moldable to the surface and peels off easily. It's lightweight and compact and you can just throw it in your bag or pocket when you're done. Think about how useful this is and all those times you balanced your camera on makeshift tripods just to get a steadier shot.
The MonsterPod isn't available yet but according to the website it should be out in a few weeks at $29.95.

insert witty lyric here.

i can't even think of a good song lyric to list for the title (angel, can you throw me a bone here, you are so freaking good at it...)

anyway. here's the recap of the weekend and the start of spring break (am i to add cancun at the end of that statement, i don't know....)

friday
first official day of break, and what do i do? get a hair cut and hang out at home. later i did meet up with the kiddies at red star for a bit. i wore my swanky new dress from target. Oh, yeah, i went to target, the new one in the ol' nht, and bought stuff like i had never seen a target before, it was actually sickening. i did score two cool dresses, so that is always exciting. anyway, i dressed like a 1980s /1950s weirdo on friday night. it's all good. didn't stay out too late, i did hook n and h up with some tie bracelets i had made a while ago, they seemed to be psyched. we are trading crafty things that we make now.

saturday
got up too early and headed down to dc, there by 12. d and i headed out to arundel for a bit and then to dc to hang out at fado. don't worry, the fav. waiter was in the house and even waited on us. there is a long story with the waiter, but essentially he looks like some of us know, to the point that when i saw the original person, not the waiter, i thought, wow that person kind of looks like the waiter. anyway. it's hard to explain.
watched walk the line finally, dug it. joaquin= hot. yeah, i said it.

sunday
hung out a bit and then headed to trader joes where i bought a ton of fruit leather and other goodies. much excitement for me. why can't we get a trader joes around here? headed back to the burgh in time to see some of the (boring) oscars. not much excitement huh?

i have no photos to blog, hmm... will work on that next time!

what, it's almost 12? i don't know where the time is going. anyway. meeting tomorrow for my field placement possibility- cross fingers.

full disclosure

just so you know, i like the coldplay song "talk". the guitar is neato.

The "Garden State" auteur will adapt, produce, direct and star in the remake of the 2002 Danish drama about two couples whose lives intersect after a horrific car accident. He will shoot this summer while on hiatus from "Scrubs."

dispatches from a public librarian

the dispatch was updated with a funny faq.
here's one:

Does the librarian like me?

Probably not. It's nothing personal. Librarians aren't usually into people who spend time going to a library. Besides, are you really attracted to the librarian, or are you just attracted to the fact that they work at a library?

anyway, i always find the amusing.

so there's no snb tomorrow due to a death in the dv8 family.

i'll be heading to dc on saturday for the weekend.

i had a good conversation with my boss today re: amoeba records. good times!!

got my tickets for the stills show, d and i are going, just like old times when i used to go to shows all the time in dc. not so much here in the burgh...

3.01.2006

never as tired as when i'm waking up

so i had an good conversation with a guy at the library today about music, whilst i was picking up my weekly load of library cds. good times.

did you hear kool thing played on gilmore girls last night? notice how i just slip in that i have been watching gilmore girls? can you believe that logan? i knew he was no good from the beginning (mainly b/c i am mean and i thought he was to slick for ol' rory....)

two good announcements:
1. the stills are coming to baltimore, i need to get a show partner, but i am so freaking there. oh, how i love thee, dear stills. did you hear their new song yet? you should....

2. pinback is coming to dc in may. another great show, i saw them three times last summer and they were so awesome.

what else did i have to tell you....
