nothing like the last minute

various mix cd covers
Originally uploaded by amyr.

here i am working on the mix cd for the coworker who is leaving tomorrow, thankfully i have finished all the covers for his cds a while ago (ok, that's a mere hour ago...) but they turned out cool, some out of a molly hachet album cover (guess which....) and then some out of variou garbage from around my place, like a brochure from the guggenheim vegas and a bowling calender. they're really quick to sew and i think they make the cds a little more personal. i hope anyway. does everyone get worried about making mixes for other people? it's tough work, eh? the songs, the order, what to end with..... i'm listening to it now trying to make sure the flow is right and all that, am i over thinking this, yes, of course, i do this every time i make mixes for people. it's really hard with friends i think, i guess i am just thankful that people like michele never even listen to my mixes until a year later and they realize that the killers song they like is on a mix i gave them (just kidding michele, not to pick on you, i know the earthquake was jarring enough for one day, not my bitching at you!) i did promise michele some cds, so i'll have to work on those, i think a stereophonics mix was requested, so i'll at least have one artist to work with on that one!

also, i hear from my VH1 mega hits sources that the video for gentlemen by the afghan whigs is shown daily!! can you imagine??? oh, greg dulli, how i love thy. i must write to the alternative and ask that they show videos other than gentlemen, i think i have only ever seen debonair on the alternative, but that's it for the whigs. (note: i can't believe i'll be missing the staggering statistics show this weekend, urgh. angel, please report back!!)

EDIT: also, forgot to mention the great Paul Weller debate. those who watch the alternative know that paul weller is featured, a lot. some say more than the cure, or even morrisey. opinions?? i think he might own a stake in vh1 classic and therefore has to be featured so much.... but then again, morrisey is on there a ton as well....

at least with all these departures from the office, it really cuts the amount of money one spends on lunch down. i usually pack my lunch, but i think i am even too lazy tonight to do that.... guess it's an expensive cheese sandwich for me tomorrow in the cafe!!

EDIT: ok, this mix turned out great, so great in fact i am burning a copy for myself for the car this weekend, is it lame to burn a gift cd for yourself??? you should hear the ending, FAB!!!

I'm the same way with mix CDs...I put a lot of work into them, and being a music evangelist means making it a labor of love.

Earlier this year, when I went on a couple of dates with this guy, we exchanged mix CDs. In hindsight, that exchange was a serious red flag noting the impending doom. Ugh, I think I actually trashed his disc.

i know, it's a lot of work to make a good cd. if i was a musician, i would be going through the track listing of a cd a million times just to get it right.

well, luckily, this exchange is simply on the friend level so less pressure and hopefully no messages are sent out via songs...
